Well… Believe Me They Are Worth the Price: Whole Grain, Olive Oil, Organic Sugar Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies (3.50) have been a great success so far in my Chestnut Hill store, and I hope to soon have them at South Station and Inman Square. The recipe has to be blown up in increments as to assure that it remains the same as it is expanded, so we are escalating a little bit at a time. There is no question in my mind that people like a healthier alternative that TASTES GOOD!!! The problem with a lot of healthy alternatives is that they lack the flavor and deliciousness of their rich all butter counterparts. I am a firm believer that one must have an occasional indulgence in life whether it is bacon, potato chip, sweets or whatever, but I figure if I can make some really yummy things substituting oils and whole wheat flour, why not do it. Of course nothing can take the place of butter in some desserts; can you imagine a brownie made with olive oil??
Have started to get the panninis underway in Chestnut Hill as well. Stating out with grilled cheese with the options of sharp cheddar, pepper Jack or plain old American, all on olive oil brushed herbed focaccia. Have to say they are basic and delicious. Next I will start introducing pannini of the day, but this has to be once I get all new things running smoothly! Had some great sandwiches at our Wellesley location years ago and may have to rotate some of those in. Also getting our fruit smoothies perfected-just fruit, non fat yogurt and organic apple juice or pineapple juice. If you need a little protein we can throw in some protein powder as well and you have a meal in a glass!!
